My family after a very hard decision have decided to peruse finding a better home for our male American Akita. He is 17 months and intact and roughly 95 lbs. Extremely well taken care of with the best food and multiple daily walks and play and love. Unfortunately despite this he continues to growl and snap at our 13-year-old son and my mother-in-law. He is also very same sex dog aggressive but ok with females and we knew this about the breed going in. We have put in the work 24/7 and done our best and spent thousands of dollars trying to correct this behavior and help both sides find a common ground. He seems to only favor and respect me the Dad in the family. At 8 months he bit my wife in the face while leaning over to feed him. We learned the mistake in this and moved forward with respecting space and how to work on those scenarios. We feel the best for him would be a home that is not a residential neighborhood with hopefully more land and no kids. It breaks my heart and kills me to the core to go forward with this, but I know it's the right thing for our family and for dog.
