About LUNA

Adoption Fee: $650.00
Australian Shepherd / Poodle
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Luna, she is a 8 week old BLIND Aussie poodle mix (otherwise called Aussiepoo or Aussie Doodle ٪She was diagnosed with Microphthalmia and Ocular Dysgenesis... She is a double merle, meaning both her mother and father had merle coats. When a puppy inherits two copies of the merle gene, they are at risk of losing hearing and vision. She was the only one in the litter born blind, and the breeder surrendered her to our rescue so she could find a home that understands her disability. Blind dogs are just as capable as seeing and hearing dogs. Basic obedience can be trained via touch commands. Since she is an Aussiedoodle, She will likely develop very high maintenance costs that require either a regular shave down, or brushing with a slicker brush twice a day, with a monthly trip to the groomer (which is as costly as a vet visit). She is more expensive and difficult to groom than a standard poodle since they inherit both the Aussie double coat and the poodle texture. Not adhering to a proper grooming regiment will result in painful and smelly matting and be uncomfortable and hot for the dog. Matting traps blood near the surface of the skin, affecting circulation and creating wounds similar to bed sores. Since aussiedoodles are not a breed and have no breed or temperament standard, they can develop either breed traits of Aussies (herding behaviors like nipping ankles) or poodles (barkey). Researching both breeds is important before deciding if this mix is right for you. With this being said, we will ONLY, and we repeat, We will ONLY accept applications from someone who has experience with both the breed and Blindness in puppies. %9Dѕ%8F%9Dѕ%8F%9Dѕ%8FNO EXCEPTIONS.
