Lots to unpack. First, Waffles is a goofy goofus. He has so much personality, he keeps the staff and volunteers in stitches. When we walked outside through the front door, Dalton Stephens was standing in the doorway, Waffles walked straight through his legs and said, 'Don't mind me!' This boy is SO hysterical, but more than anything he is a LOVER. He loves to stare into your eyes and get all the pets, cuddles and kisses. Waffles was owned by an irresponsible owner who allowed him to free roam intact in the community. Anyone familiar AT ALL with this breed knows this is a recipe for disaster. These dogs are extremely intelligent, have a strong prey drive, and like any intact male are looking for a 'Date.' Waffles had to be trapped, those facial scars are from his attempt to escape the trap. While he was free roaming in the community, it was reported he was being aggressive with dogs and people interrupting his pursuit of a 'Lady Friend.' At the shelter he has been VERY loving towards staff and volunteers, but he's not testing great with other dogs. Here's what's happening, he's gotten attached to one person, Ashlynn Brown (female kennel tech). When another dog approaches Ashlynn, he will stand in between while lunging and growling at the other dog 'protecting her.' When another PERSON approaches Ashlynn, he gets a little stiff, but is not aggressive. True to his breed, he is protective. He loves all people, but quickly bonds with females and is protective over them. So, that's my best description. I think with the proper training, he would be an excellent protection dog. Waffles walks okay on leash, does tug. He knows 'Sit' and 'Shake.' He is NOSEY, and wants to know what's going on in every room in the shelter. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%A4%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD Oddly enough, he has no barrier aggression. He walks by other kennels just fine, and doesn't care when other dogs walk in front of his. Y'all, this is an INTENSE breed, and they have to be properly controlled and trained. We all think Waffles will thrive in the right environment. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%8F%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%8F
