I'm looking for a new owner for my Malinois, Ray. He is a neutered male Belgian Malinois, 1 year 2 months old. He was brought to the shelter as abandoned and listed for euthanasia. I adopted him from me to escape this. He is intelligent and a quick learner. Ray can seem shy and timid. He doesn't trust new people, but once he figures out they're not dangerous to him, he's a really sweet guy. He is house-trained, sleeps well all night (we don't use a crate but he knows what it is). I would say Ray is a moderate energy level, good with small and large dogs. He is quick to make friends and play very gently on the playground. He knows 'sit', 'down', 'come', 'fetch' but needs a lot of additional work and training. He walks decently on a leash. Of course, if he sees a squirrel - how not to try to catch it? When he starts to trust his owner, he likes to snuggle into her lap or put his paws out for a friendly sniff and show his belly for scratching. I can say that he is a sensitive young adult who responds well to positive reinforcement training, especially when treats are involved. While he may show submissive tendencies, his potential shines with a little guidance and encouragement. Ray doesn't guard toys or food. I suspect he has been trained too strictly with a lot of punishment. For example, he is afraid to go and eat without a command. He is allowed to sniff the food on the table, but he is never allowed to take anything. He takes treats with great care. He loves to play with his favorite toys and loves to be with his human. Additional - Ray will form a strong bond with one person. He starts to fight for leadership with my husband and Ray doesn't respect him and growls at him often.
