Courtesy Posting: PHOENIX AREA, ARIZONA- ADORABLE, YOUNG, PETITE CHOW GIRL 'NALA' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE CHOW SAVVY HOME- DOG FRIENDLY. BEING REHOMED DUE TO OWNER'S HEALTH (please no negative comments, owner is asking for help to rehome) Please help us find a loving, responsible and chow savvy home for adorable Nala, an approximate 3.5 year old female chow weighing only 35 lbs and already spayed. Her current owner adopted her from the shelter last year, but due to a change in the owner's health, is unable to walk or keep her, and certainly does not want to bring her back to this shelter. The owner explains 'She's loving, enjoys walks, playing with toys, and has had basic training such as sit, stay, come, time for bed, and does very well riding in the car, as well as follows commands to stay behind the front seats of the car. She gets along with other dogs but can be territorial. We've never had problems at the dog parks. She doesn't really do anything there except run around the outside edge though. She was stand-off-ish initially, but with continuing to show her love and attention, she is a wonderful pet. Nala is a one-person dog that is house trained and current on her vaccinations.' Like many chows, Nala will bark at strangers who come to the door and can be protective. 'She is very sweet once she gets to know you, but it takes time and being firm with her that that is not acceptable behavior.' Nala has lived with teenage kids and been fine with them, but would not be recommended for homes with younger children or without chow experience. It is important to note that Nala has had some sensitivity around her neck so one must go slow at first. She originally nipped at someone grabbing her. With this same person she knows now, she allows hugs around her neck, but caution should be exercised with new people and fast movements. She also nipped at one of the staff members at the doggie day care center, and that was also because he moved too quickly to grab her collar. However, at this same doggie day care, she has also received an 'A' on her report card. We would love for Nala to find her forever home where she can live indoors, someone who can also walk her regularly since she is still young. Chow experience is a must, no younger children in the home. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual) and must provide vet reference. If you are interested in applying for Nala, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is assisting the owner with her placement.
