About Bea

American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Bea is a beautiful, sweet, almost 2 year old pittie mix looking for a home where she will be doted on like she deserves. She likes going for walks, playing with toys, chewing on durable bones, and snuggling on the couch with her human. She is well trained, knows tons of commands and is eager to learn more if you keep the treats coming! Bea is selective about her canine friends, which is fair. Most of us don't like everyone we meet. Dogs she likes are often younger and male with similar energy. She enjoys playdates with these friends. If Bea lives with other playful dogs she needs you to stop and give her resting time too. After decompressing in her crate with a nice long nap she will be ready to play again after! Bea had a hard start in life - her mom was a dog on a chain that was shot by a stranger when she was protecting her litter of newborn puppies. Bea and her littermates went into rescue and Bea was adopted by her foster family. She lived with two cats, a small dog, and a former mama dog who helped raise little Bea. She became housetrained immediately, took to the crate from Day 1, and learned what she was allowed and not allowed to chew. In adolescence, Bea's prey drive kicked in. Despite having grown up with cats, she fixated on them and her family learned that no amount of training and management would keep the cats safe. A woman looking for a playmate for her rambunctious young female dog adopted Bea, and for four weeks Bea and the other dog played and played. It seemed to be a success! But Bea's new owner didn't take into account that Bea needs quiet time, or that Bea has extremely high prey drive. The new owner brought in a pregnant dog foster who gave birth immediately and now there were all kinds of sounds and smells in the house that upset Bea. Bea was getting less attention and exercise and was confused and stressed. She began quarreling with the other dog. One night they got into a bad fight and her new owner told her original owner she couldn't keep Bea any longer. Bea's original owner was devastated for Bea, herself, and her other pets. Bea went back to the original owner. Bea's fur siblings (two cats and a small dog) were temporarily relocated to family members. Her owners were happy to have time with Bea again, but missed the rest of their fur family. Bea would do best with someone who can give her full attention, who understands her anxiety around prey animals and won't put her in a position to make her more anxious. In return, she'll reward you with cuteness and kisses and be a great companion.
