About Cooper

Hello, This is Cooper. He is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd (possible mini due to being 40lbs). Cooper is a very loyal and loving dog to his owners but is extremely cautious of new people and has yet to fully warm up to someone other than his owners. It is believed Cooper was abused/neglected but due to being brought into the Shelter as a stray, his background can't be confirmed. Since Cooper has warmed up in his home, he has displayed some behavioral issues towards small animals within the home (cats), children and adults. Cooper becomes very protective of his owners while in the home and will guard them which can result in blocking, growling and nipping of the feet/legs. Cooper will also guard his toys and food if given the chance. None of the resource guarding has been towards his owners. Cooper can be quite leash reactive towards other dogs, small animals, people and larger vehicles driving towards him but has shown improvement with constant training on a prong collar and rewards. It is not advised to take him into a high traffic/stimulating environment. Cooper is crate trained but does find it difficult to fully relax for a period of time. Cooper is looking for a quiet home with minimal distractions and with someone who knows the breed/behaviors very well or has experience with training. Cooper can and will thrive with the right person who can take their time and patience to help him trust again. Cooper has already had a bunch of training and truly wants to be good and please everybody. Cooper comes with his crate, food bin, food bowels, treats, toys, toy bin, different leashes/harnesses and collars.
