About Remington

Meet Remington! He is a large German Shepard. His life has not been easy. He came to us underweight, unneutered, and heartworm positive. Despite his challenges, he is as happy as can be. Remington is large and knows it. He is extremely strong but has a true heart of gold. He would not hurt a flea (well maybe if he sat on it). Remington is 6 years old and currently at 98lbs. He does still need to put on some weight, but not much. Due to being heartworm positive, Remington is in need of treatment. We have been waiting to start treatment until he was an appropriate weight. We would love for him to be in a home before starting treatment. This way Remington will feel comfortable in a home before the treatment. Heartworm treatment is extensive and takes 4-6 weeks. During that time, Remington will have to remain very calm and his activity level will need to remain very low. The treatment causes the worms to break a part and exit the heart. If he is too active, the worms can become stuck causing extreme issues for Remington. During treatment, Remington can only go on short potty walks on a leash. He will need to be retested 6 months after treatment to make sure it worked. Due to the extent of this treatment, Remington will need to be the only animal or separate from any animals. While this is to keep him as calm as possible, we also believe he may not be good with cats and seems dog selective. Do not let this scare you off! Thankfully, we, Medina County SPCA, provides everything for you. We will pay for the treatment. We will also give you everything you need during the foster period. Our medical staff will be with you every step of the way making sure he is doing well. Remington will be required to come back to the shelter periodically for health checks. Remington is a sweet boy.
