Courtesy Posting: Baldwin Park Shelter, Baldwin Park, So Cal 'CHRISTOPHE' - ID #a5613729 CODE RED/X URGENT - WONDERFUL AND STRIKINGLY HANDSOME PEOPLE AND DOG FRIENDLY TRIPOD CHOW/SPITZ BOY 'CHRISTOPHE' NEEDS A GOOD HOME AND OR FOSTER AND RESCUE BEFORE HE IS KILLED, WHO CAN HELP SAVE HIM? SHELTER FULL, JUST ISSUED SECOND WARNING, AT GREAT RISK NOW TO BE EUTHANIZED SOON! Help! The shelter is asking for help for this sweet boy with very good behavior notes, and just gave their second warning issued on 3/28 he needs out before he is euthanized for space. Christophe is a dashing, handsome young man who was found as a stray and brought to the Baldwin Park kill shelter with an old ruptured achilles tendon, ouch. Due to the poor prognosis of it healing, the shelter just amputated his left rear leg. Despite this, Christophe as he has been named is quite friendly and already walking around and we will be posting video of this. Therefore, it would be such a shame if he was euthanized after all of this. Even before the repair, in a playgroup with other dogs, he did well with them and preferred a dainty play style. The shelter estimates him to be 6 years old, he weighs 48 lbs and has a beautiful sleek black coat and a black chow tongue to match. Christophe is perfectly sized and was easily handled by staff. Shelter notes state, 'Christophe was at the front of the kennel when the runner arrived. He had a loose body posture, a loose tail wag, an open pant, soft eyes, and his natural ear set. When the runner presented his hand, he became more energetic and excited. He sniffed and licked the runner's hand when it was presented to him. He gently pawed at the door. The runner was able to leash him with ease and he exited the kennel. Christophe walked on leash ahead of the runner with a moderate pull. Occasionally, he would turn back to solicit petting and jump up on him. When the runner continued to move along, he would follow. Inside the catch pen, he was easy to collar. He greeted the dogs at the gate with a tensed body, a high stiff wagging tail, a closed mouth, ears alert and dilated pupils. He growled at one of the dogs near the barrier and then turned away. When he greeted a second time, he had a more neutral demeanor and greeted appropriately. He was allowed into the yard, he pushed past the dogs at the barrier and trotted through the yard. He went off to explore the yard on his own, sniffing and marking different areas. The dogs trotted behind him to sniff his back end which he completely tolerated. However, he lacked any real interest in the dogs and simply coexisted with them. At some point, he laid down in the middle of the yard, observing his surroundings and sunbathing. When he noticed the runner, he sprung out of his position, trotting to the door. He whined and paced back and forth along the gate. He tried gaining the runner's attention and became very anxious to leave. He did not interact with the dogs any further but allowed them to sniff him and be in his space. Christophe had no playstyle but should be in gentle/dainty groups. He had a medium energy level and is social with the other dogs.' They further stated, 'He allowed her to examine his ears, teeth, stomach, back-end, tail, back and front/back nails. He showed no concerning behavior. When the handler let him go, he ran back to the door and did not return, thus ending his assessment., Christophe is okay for public adoption, large calm dogs are recommended.' For direct adoption inquiries for Christophe, please contact the shelter using his listing link: : https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACO2/A5613729 or by calling 626-962-3577 or 626-430-2378 and ask for him by ID. He is available for public adoption but will not be neutered until later so he can heal. He can go home on a health trust waiver. However, due to his urgency, Christophe likely needs a rescue if no one comes for him, but most rescues need fosters to save a dog. Therefore, if you are interested in fostering, or need more information or want to help, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist the shelter with his placement, and can try to pair you with a rescue to help or foster through. If needed, we have his Christophe's medical and behavior notes from the shelter.
