About the dog: Basil is well socialized and had consistent and extensive training using positive reinforcement and clicker training growing up. He has great house manner, super smart, potty trained, crate trained, loves agility, walk on leash nicely and can be offleashed. He enjoys hiking, city walk or just hanging out on the couch. His problems: He was resource guarding around food since day one. We were able to train it out of him(toward people) when he's around 6 months old, but he still guards against other dogs. He's very affectionate, and very friendly to strangers, but only when he initiates it, and does not like being hugged. He's super nice and sweet 95% of the time, and gets comments such as 'well behaved, friendly & sweet' all the time on the street. Although rare, when stressed, he can show aggression without warning. He has bitten 3 people so far. The first time was seemingly unprovoked, bit a friend at our house, only got the clothes, no injuries. Second time was another friend that tried to pick up his leash right outside of the house, he bit the friend the moment the leash was picked up, and left two 2mm shallow punctures. Third time was me, seemingly unprovoked at home, left 3 punctures with large bruise in between. None of the wounds needed stitches. We're looking for someone who has experience with dogs with behavioral issues, and can continue train and manage him for rest of his life. He will not respond well with punishment in training, so it'd be idea to train him mainly using positive reinforcement. We believe he'd do well in an environment with less stimulants and with a fixed schedule.
