About Bella

Jack Russell mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Bella! This sweet and pretty cookie is a two-year old, 50-pound mix who has earned the nickname Oreo to match her black and white coat. Plus, she gets the A-OK from kids, other dogs, and even cats! Bella is currently in a foster home in Manchester, NH after being saved from a very neglectful situation. She has shown her foster mom that she is a wonderful and loving pet. She is not toy- or food-aggressive. She's affectionate, cuddly, and loves to give hugs. Bella likes to have her main person in her sightline, so you'll have a little shadow but not the annoying clingy type! Her favorite thing to do is play with her pink ball. You'll be hard-pressed to find her without her version of a blankie. She also enjoys car rides and taking walks. She does not need a crate and can be left to roam or be in a gated-off room when you do leave her behind. (She is actually very fearful of being confined in a crate.) Bella's poor background is likely the reason she is nervous in certain situations. She'll need time, patience, and positive reinforcement to help her overcome her struggles. To start off on the right paw, Bella needs a female as her main person who is home most of the time. Someone who works from home or is a retired/part-time worker is ideal. She tends to grow protective of her person and that's something she also needs help with. Her anxiety includes being left alone for more than a few hours. She would benefit by having a pet sibling to play with and show her that life isn't so scary. She currently lives with a cat and a dog. Though women get four paws up, she is fearful of men and has fear-aggression toward them. It will take time for her to feel comfortable with new people, especially men. With visitors, at this time Bella does much better when introduced to them while inside the house. Even though she's not a big dog, she is very strong and currently pulls and barks in certain situations. She's just a very scared dog right now who needs proper introductions. Let her get used to people and before long she'll accept your friendship unconditionally. On the flip side, Bella is a different girl at the dog park! She loves being able to run free with other dogs and it's a place where people don't bother her. To have this type of confidence-building as part of her daily life, and a good-sized fenced-in yard are her top wishes. She would love an outdoor space to play with her ball (and she'll expend nervous energy that's been holding her back!). Requirements: Experienced dog owners with a woman as her main person, time to transition on her own schedule, another dog and/or cat, fenced yard, quiet lifestyle, willingness to work with her and a positive reinforcement trainer. Though she's good with toddlers, children 4-6+ are preferred. Bella will have a whole new life in which to acclimate, which takes time and attention, commodities babies also need! Note: Breed types are unknown, but she is probably a mix of terriers. Contact [email protected] to discuss helping this sweetie get over her fears!
