About Delaney or D-Lo

Adoption Fee: $25
Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Meet DeLaney or D-LO for short. She is a 10 year old Belgian Malanois. She belonged to a military vet who had her since she was around a year old. She attended Police Academy training in Oklahoma as a youngster but wasn't quite up to the chase and grab the bad guy stuff so she became his constant companion up until about a year ago. He took a job out of state and left her with a caregiver who, at the time, lived in a rural area. His intent was to return within a few months to retrieve her but that never happened. The caregiver has since moved to the city of Tulsa and wants to find a suitable home for her to live out the remainder of her years. Here's what I know about D-LO: 'ۢ She is crate trained, knows several commands including the basic ones like sit, stay, load, and get back over here when she's called from one of her country-run excursions. She has great recall off leash. 'ۢ She's very smart and loving and will stick like glue to her person 'ۢ Despite her age, she is still very high energy, loves to play, run and be busy with her human and weighs about 65 pounds 'ۢ She does well with other dogs when introduced the right way. Not so much when a strange dog approaches her without proper introduction. She plays gently with the caregivers mid-size dog and they board together if needed. 'ۢ She has a strong prey drive and does not do well with cats or chickens, unless you count eating them 'ۢ She has never shown aggression to humans but will bark loudly at unknown or unannounced people. 'ۢ She has been around guns and has been off-leash in the country. 'ۢ She has weather anxiety and is not overly fond of rain 'ۢ She is great with kids, not sure about toddler/babies but otherwise loves her humans 'ۢ She may have a bit of German Shepherd ancestry based on her looks 'ۢ She is spayed and fully vetted regularly as is needed and has been extremely well taken care of. Vet references are available. She sits at attention and quietly when on leash in the vet office and is not reactive to the other animals in the waiting room. 'ۢ She walks very well on a leash and leash walking with other dogs she knows 'ۢ Since her person abandoned her, she has not received the same amount of attention and house privileges she is accustomed to. She loves being on the couch, sitting at the feet or on the bed of her person and will follow commands to stay on her bed. She loves going in the truck for rides, visiting work sites, going along when hunting and fishing or good long runs. 'ۢ The caregiver will provide her new person with her crate, bed, toys and other belongings and will deliver her anywhere within a reasonable distance of Tulsa ie; 3-4 hours drive or meet halfway. I think she would be a fabulous companion to a rancher/farmer, sportsperson or family that would give her lots of love and attention. I can see her riding on the range with her human as much as at the feet while watching television. She would also be good with a police officer or military person. She is probably too high energy for someone with PTSD but was the 9 year companion of a former marine. If you are interested in D-LO or know someone who would be an ideal candidate, please message me. We need to find a new home for her as quickly as possible. Feel free to share the information as needed.
