I have been looking to adopt for easily six months. (I've been blessed to have Victorian Bulldogs, Frenchies, and EBs in my life and heart for 20 years.) I am a former vet tech, medical assistant, and very familiar with all breed issues. Adopting another dog was a meticulously planned decision. I had to get my roommate's permission. The new dog would have to get along with my roommate's dogs, cats, farm and chickens. I have been speaking with my clients (dog sitting and dog walking) about a new bulldog for a while so they would be on board. The stars aligned and I met this amazing *BIG* personality, giant head, and love to give dog. He was surrendered at 2-1/2 years old because of 'skin issues' {headdesk}.Just a little breed research and he would have been fine. Poor guy dealt with crap food, no knowledge of bulldog issues, ignorance about BOAS and Entropion which gave way to being surrendered. He lived with young children, a Yorkie and 2 cats. His home was in somewhat of a rural area. Based on recent behavior, I can easily guess that Porkchop didn't come in contact with many other animals or people on -his- property, unless they were unwelcome. In the first weeks of being with us he stayed at home with me in my roommate's home and got along with chickens, kids, cats, and all of the dogs. I was so thrilled. I took him to his part-time residence with my boyfriend and brought my Victorian bully, with whom Porkchop had quickly bonded. My boyfriend has a cat, who is well adjusted with my bully. All of them got along swimmingly when Porkchop was brought into the house and introduced to my boyfriend and his cat. Perfect family fit! Then, he got comfortable in _HIS_ home. We had Porkchop on the front porch in our neighborhood with a very small front yard that is too small to even fence. He had no problem with people walking their dogs les than 5 feet from the porch. I have trained multiple service dogs and dogs with behavioral issues. I use a correctional collar, with praise and reward treats. I do not use the shock feature. I've trained, worked with, healed, helped, and loved bulldogs for over a decade. One day something snapped. We were at lunch on a busy sidewalk both dogs were asleep under the table. A dog walked by and Porkchop snapped to attention and lunged at the dog, almost knocking over the table and pulling me out of my chair. This behavior was scary, but I've worked with it before. Long story short, he has attacked multiple dogs and cats and 2 people. I spoke to the shelter and they said if I can find a place for him, that's his best bet.
