About Kenway

Kenway is a gentle giant with a heart of gold! This big pit/bulldog mix may look intimidating, but don't let his size fool you - he's a big teddy bear who loves nothing more than snuggling up with his favorite humans. His whole body will wiggle when he's excited and he loves everyone he meets. He is a special needs dog due to his missing foot. We are in the process of having him fitted for a prosthetic. For this reason, he is only available for local adoption until his prosthetic arrives and he can get used to it. His adopter will need to be able to get him to/from vet appointments and be willing to help him adjust to the new foot. (Local means within 1 hr drive time of Wake Forest.) He is pretty agile as a 4-legged, 3-footed dog, but it puts a lot of extra work on the other leg/hip. We want better for him. He is a pro at taking treats gently and always sits on command like a good boy. He's a chew toy enthusiast, but watch out - he's a power chewer, so only the toughest toys will do for this guy. If they squeak, it's a bonus! Although he's pretty quiet most of the time, he isn't afraid to let out a little whine when he wants some extra attention or playtime. He gets positively giddy when he sees other dogs, though he hasn't had the chance to play much due to his foot injury. While he loves other dogs, he would do okay as an only dog as well. What about cats? Sorry, he says 'no thank you.' He's great in the car and enjoys looking out the window. At home, he likes to look out the front door and bask in the sunlight. He would also enjoy a fenced yard, but it's not a must as long as he gets walks. For now, his walks should be short, and his nub covered to protect it. Once he acclimates to his new foot, he can do longer walks. Kenway is a pro at using the potty outside and settling down in his crate when needed.
