We adopted Max from our local shelter, Twin City Animal Shelter in Lead, SD last June. He got along with our resident dog, a lab mix, when we first brought Max home, but now can be aggressive towards our other dog Milo when highly aroused to the point of attacking Milo. We had an incident about a month and a half ago where Max attacked Milo to the point of Milo needing stitches and a tube placed in his chest for drainage. I was bitten in the fight trying to break it up by Milo actually when I put my hand in between the dogs. Now Max will go after our other dog when aroused or when excited to the point we are afraid he may kill our other dog. We hired a trainer and she is working on his reactivity, but she and we are pretty sure they may never get along. We do not want to euthanize max, as he deserves a chance to be a good dog in a single dog home, but we are just running out of options and don't want our other dog to be killed. We also do have grandkids and just don't want to have any of them get in the middle of a fight if one happens. He will also get aroused to the point of lashing out at people he doesn't know and we just don't want someone else to get bitten, although Max is good with people when he gets to know them.
