Chewy is an alley cat who could never survive in an alley. In spring of 2023, I put a shelter in my back patio so stray cats around my South Philly home could find somewhere to rest when the weather turned turbulent. 'Chewy' became a frequent guest. Over his visits, it became evident that he was not capable of fending for himself, frequently appearing on my back patio cut up and bloodied. (While Chewbacca/'Chewie' is the obvious comparison, he is named after the Quaker Oats Chewy granola bars.) In the fall of 2023, I took him in. I got him neutered & inoculated. That's when I found out he was FIV+. I have two other cats, who get along fine, but the male cat (Cass) is an overly-agressive/playful jerk. Adrian, a female, is normally passive, but is capable of fighting off Cass. Chewy doesn't know the difference between 'play' and 'I'm being hunted,' and now both my other cats are hunting him for sport. He's so sweet. A little derpy, has hairballs sometimes, a little scabby. But a very, very sweet companion who just wants to lounge around inside and be loved.
