Courtesy Posting: MARTINEZ, CA (N CAL)- ID #A1014140- 'ZEVIA' - CONTRA COSTA SHELTER- RESCUE ONLY - HIT BY A CAR, NEEDS MEDICAL FOSTER & RESCUE ASAP OR WILL BE EUTHANIZED- SWEET MALE GOLDEN RETRIEVER/HUSKY LOOKING X) 'ZEVIA' IN URGENT NEED- WHO CAN HELP? CODE RED-TO BE ON THE EUTH LIST DUE TO URGENT MEDICAL, A SAVVY OR MEDICAL FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT IS NEEDED (IDEALLY LOCATED NEAR A WILLING RESCUE) SO A RESCUE CAN SAVE- FRIENDLY BOY FOUND HIT BY A CAR AND NOW HAS LUXATED OR DISLOCATED HIP REQUIRING SURGERY DUE TO TRAUMA. PLEDGES ALSO NEEDED FOR RESCUE AND MEDICAL. Please contact @ROBIN APPLEBAUM MORGAN with questions or foster interest, as shared posts and comments may not been seen. Emergency/to be Euth listed! We are in urgent need of finding a solid foster (or foster-to-adopt) and rescue for this dear boy who was apparently hit by a car and eventually taken to the Contra Costa shelter where he will be euthanized if no one steps up soon. The shelter has named him Zevia and listed him as a chow husky mix, although we see less chow possibly none (has a pink tongue) and resembles more of a golden retriever husky mix. They estimate he is only 4 years old, and he weighs 53 lbs so perfect size. The shelter has been trying to manage his pain and discomfort with medication, however, they are seeking a rescue group to handle the surgery. Rescues need solid fosters though to take dogs in like Zevia though. The shelter has also submitted to the UC Davis Community Surgery program for consideration. But we will still a foster and rescue to then step up regardless. Although this boy was in a lot of pain initially and understandably, with his pain more managed now, the shelter said, 'Behaviorally patient is much more relaxed, leaning against us and seeking pets.' A volunteer who walked him on 3/7 described him as 'Sweet gentle boy, easy on leash, attentive and curious, loves to sniff and explore, likes attention and petting.' Please be sure to watch his video in this post of Zevia being petted. We were told he is a very sweet boy!! We also have the medical reports for those who need it, but briefly, he 'entered the shelter with a luxation of the right hip. This means the 'ball' of the 'ball and socket' joint was no longer in the socket. This is the result of trauma, likely being hit by a car. The 'ball' will need to be removed in a procedure called a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO). Currently, this procedure is not scheduled due to the shelters limited resources'. We would intend for a rescue group to assist with this and help to raise necessary funds for such. We will be posting better pictures and Videos on facebook, as well as updates as we receive them. Zevia is very urgent and Rescue only meaning they cannot be adopted directly from the shelter without a rescue group involved. If you are interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for their medical or rescue), please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Rescue groups should contact the shelter directly and immediately by calling (925) 608-8400 and providing his ID, as well as emailing the rescue coordinator Shelly at [email protected] and calling her at 925-812-6157.
