American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull

Her story is one that would break any dog lover's heart. My name is Caitlin and I live in Weddington, NC. I work in pet care and have 3 rescue dogs of my own. Over the past 15 years, on an off, I have independently rescued and adopted or re-homed domestic homeless pets in need %BD'%BD|.when the opportunity presented itself and when my heart told me to. I met Belle at around six months old over the summer, coincidentally as part of my job. I was asked to temporarily board Belle at my home until this female college student (who met me with the dog) could move to Columbia, South Carolina. Belle was in terrible condition. She had missing hair and I wanted to rule out mange%BD'%BD| she was malnourished and clearly neglected, smelling of her own excrement. This college student admitted to me that she had just rescued Belle the prior day from a co-worker (who planned to dump her at animal control). It was revealed to me that Belle lived over ten hours a day straight, and overnight, in a crate in a garage, for months. The crate had no towel, no blanket or bed or base, other than the hard metal exterior. She had NO NAME, we named her. I told her I would take Belle to the vet and try to help find an adoptive or foster home. Belle got medical treatment, was with me for two days, then an adoptive family took her in with supplies, under the condition of getting her fixed. In December Belle came back to me for reasons personal to the adoptive family, not for any concerns they had with the dog. When I got her I confirmed she had never been fixed and I was concerned she was pregnant with swollen nipples. She was spayed within 3 days of me having her back and it was discovered she had a potentially lethal infection of the uterus that developed after her first heat. While she recovered and after recovery, Belle started showing aggressive behavior towards my two younger females (but only indoors oddly enough)%BD'%BD| and then again with another older female at my friend's foster home (where she was for just one weekend to give me a break). Belle is friendly with male dogs similar to or larger than her size. She has learned to jump my fence and will wander if unattended. Belle has a huge heart for what she has been through. All she wants is to love you and be loved. Her breed is high energy, so she loves to run and chew on hard toys/bones. Belle needs basic training, exercise and to potentially be in a single pet household. She is used to a crate now as I have been humanely crate training her for months. I have all of Belle's vet records and she is up to date on everything. I can no longer keep Belle for financial reasons and it is not fair to my girls. Belle can not thrive here, with me keeping all dogs separate from her%BD'%BD| we have changed our routines completely and I am weighed down with the stress of it all.
