About Kai

Kai is an incredibly smart, highly trained, and strong-willed border collie who needs re-homing to a family or farm that will be able to give him the fresh air, exercise, love and attention that he so craves. He's 5 years old and extremely well trained. Starting at 4 months old, he attended weekly sheep herding training with Robin Elliot (On The Lamb, California) and has quite a bit of work to do but has an extremely strong prey drive and work ethic. Herding experts have noted that he would likely be good with cattle, also, due to his fearless nature and strong 'eye' or field presence. In addition to the herding we attended agility lessons, hike with him nearly weekly 5-10 miles, walk/run with him nearly 10 miles a day and throw the ball for him daily. He's extremely athletic, a quick learner, and has a wonderful personality. He's trained to talk with buttons (Can request bathroom, ask to play ball, ask for a walk, knows names of all family members and even knows feelings like 'love you' and 'worried��%BD'��%BD|'). He knows all general dog commands and also a ton of tricks such as ringoing a bell to go out to bathroom. He's pure-bred, though we don't have papers as he was adopted by a family who intended to only have him as a family dog. As Kai has such a strong herding nature, he has a tendency to resource guard and may occasionally become aggressive to dogs and people who approach him when he's eating, corner him, or suddenly approach him while he feels protective of his 'family.' Though rare, these few incidents were the reasons his family, who loved him dearly but have a new baby and young children, decided rehome him. Their only hope is that he can go to a new owner who can provide him with a full life of exercise and fresh air.
