About Handsome

Adoption Fee: $25
Siamese / Domestic Cat
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Mr. Frank (Ol'Blue Eyes) 'Handsome' is one seriously gorgeous Siamese-mix cat! He's somewhere between 2-5 years old, and weighs in just under 15 pounds. He's had a hard life. We first saw him in our Soquel (Santa Cruz County) neighborhood in early October 2023, and after a few weeks he snuck into our house looking for food (10/18) but found our 3 defensive cats instead! We kept him in, loosened his collar by over an inch(!), and got him over to a vet who would read his chip; but the person who'd adopted him said they'd given him away, but wouldn't provide the contact information. While digging around Nextdoor Soquel (looking for lost Siamese cats) I found his photos posted by someone else trying to re-home him last June, and I believe he's already had between 3-5 homes(?) in his short life. After two weeks in our home, a neighbor tried to adopt him, but being in a house with their two young boys was too much for Handsome, and he escaped after about 2 weeks. The second time we brought him into our care it took me a few weeks of feeding him nightly in my yard to be able to pet him again (and once he trusts you - boy does he love to be petted!). About a week after he'd been in a rough tussle with one of our own cats (who chased him out of 'their' yard), I noticed he had a bump to his tail, and it took me another week to get him to let me pick him up and bring him inside (12/13). The bump turned into an abscess, and we went to SC Emergency Vet Hospital right before Christmas. He got excellent care and spent ~3 weeks in a cone while his tail wound healed, and now he's going about cone-free, using the scratching post and playing with toys (although he'll have 'poodle-tail' for some time to come while his tail-hair regrows). This fella is absolutely a domesticated cat: he's never once scratched furniture, and has perfect litter box manners, soft, thick well-groomed fur, and beautiful ice blue eyes (not very crossed). He is very affectionate, curious, and loves attention. He enjoys playing with and chasing & 'catching' his toys very much; we provided him 'mouse' shaped toys and he absolutely loves 'birdy-on-a-string'! We host him in our guest room, with a pull-out sleeper-sofa that provides him a sheltered space, allowing him to feel safe (under the pulled-out bed)'|and we recommend you provide something similar at first. We know Handsome survived outdoors off his own wits for a long while, so he's a hunter - and will be a 'flight risk' for a long time (forever?). Although he will be shy and want a 'protected space' at first, as we built trust over the last month he now feels quite comfortable wandering the house and enjoys toys and a large 'cat-tree' that we have for our cats (when they're outside!). We've fostered Handsome in our guest room for about 3 months total, with occasional field trips around the rest of the house, and even onto the 'catio' (wired in deck) - but our own 3 cats are not making this guy feel welcome. So now that he's healed and socialized, it's time we find him a permanent home with new people to love and care for him. This cat will thrive in an environment with: %BC) Quiet surroundings, in adult-only home (the fast moving/loud kids literally terrified him) - hopefully with a window where he can watch birds & smell the fresh air (he loves watching/smelling the rain thru his screened window) %BC) A closed environment for an extended period to feel safe, bond with you, and learn 'where' his home is. %BC) To be the only cat (maybe a kitten/non-threatening cat would be possible after a while? He wanted to play with our cats, but they were not accepting and only growled/spat and struck out'| now Handsome goes on the defensive each time he encounters one of them) %BC) A size 'X-large' cat box, and heavy-bottomed tall cat scratcher/tower (that is stable enough to stay upright when he throws himself onto it ٪ %BC) Patience! As he's a little short on trust, and quite clear about 'no' (with 'punches') and shows affection by giving gentle bites when he gets over excited (keep his claws clipped!) Handsome is just one of those cats that will find his way into your heart and won't let go. Be prepared to fall in love, once you build some trust - you will find this guy will be your best friend Furrever! We'd love to talk to any 'cat-whisperer' interested in providing this beautiful cat with a loving home and long-term care. We'll send him off with his bed, brush, the toys he's used to, some food and his favorite treats! If interested, contact: Tamara Email: [email protected]
