About Rafi

Adoption Fee: $100
Siberian
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Rafi is a friendly and loving 9 year old male Siberian Forest Cat. He is super affectionate and loves to sit on my lap and purr! He is curious, healthy, a great eater, and has the silkiest fur I've ever felt! :) Four years ago, we added one dog to our family and then another dog two years ago, which we believe has, unfortunately, stressed Rafi out and has caused him to start marking in our basement. This was never an issue-not one single time- for the first six years of his life. It was only after we got the two dogs did he start marking. I have had him checked out medically and the vet says he is 100% fine and it's not a medical issue. I have added a 2nd litter box, added Feliway diffusers on every level of our home, and the dogs are prohibited from going in the basement in an attempt to give him a safe space. He 100% still uses the litterbox to pee and poop and from what I've read 'marking' is different than a litterbox issue because they usually do it on vertical surfaces, which is what is happening. We have several cat towers with high spaces that the dogs cannot reach. One of the dogs has some 'herder' in her so this doesn't help the situation, as the dog tries to 'herd' Rafi, which stresses him out. There is no doubt in my mind that the dogs stress Rafi out and he is marking to establish his order in the pack. I have done everything I know to do based on research and conversations with my veterinarian. It is breaking my heart, but at this point, I truly believe it would be best for Rafi and for our sanity, to find Raif a home where he can be the sole focus and receive all of the love and attention he deserves. As far as food goes, Rafi receives half a can of grain-free wet food in the morning and the other half for dinner (either Merrick's, Weruva, or Wellness). He also receives a small small snack of Origen Cat & Kitten dry food as a snack around 1:00. I have used SwheatScoop for litter his whole life (no clay!). He has a small white bump on his head that he has had since he was a kitten. The vet has checked it out and we continue to keep our eye on it, but it has not grown at all and the vet doesn't see the need to remove it. He is up to date on all of his vaccines. Again, I never thought I would be rehoming a pet, but the situation is just untenable for our family and for Rafi. I love him so much and want to find him a good home with people that will love him as much as I do and take great care of him! (3
