About RJ

Adoption Fee: $100
Rottweiler mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

RJ was found running around the neighborhood. He looked malnourished and has a 2-4 scars on his back (1 of them only being noticeable, due to missing fur). He was taken to the vet, just to check if he had a microchip. Unfortunately he didn't have one. So my family and I have been taking care of him since November 3rd, 2023. We've since taken him to the vet agin to get an annual check up and vaccines. It took two vet visits because he got snappy/growled at the vet/technicians. So we had to reschedule so he can take some meds prior the appointment to mellow him out, as well as be muzzled. We also learned he was 2 years old. While in our care he has been amazing with my father and I. Very affectionate, loves to play, and try's to be a lap dog. Unfortunately he has snapped a few times at people: -At my dad's girlfriend 3-4 times on different occasions( 1 time drawing blood). We're not really sure why. We think maybe it's because she doesn't spend much time with him; or he associates her with something negative/distrusts her? -He nipped at my brother (25yr old) when he was checking out his scar. It seems like he's reactive when he's uncomfortable. -at a Petco visit he grabbed a man's jacket when he walked by (just a tiny corner, no barking or growling before)but released real quick. This instance might have been a protective reaction, but not sure So we have started muzzling him and he does really well with it, he doesn't love it, but he handles it ok. We have also learned he actually belonged to someone in the neighborhood, due to kids recognizing him when we went on a walk. They said RJ belonged to their father that had been incarcerated. They didn't ask for him back though, I believe they struggled taking care of him, hence the malnourishment. I think RJ would make an amazing companion for someone who has experience and is willing to take the time training him. I would love to be able to keep him myself but I have recently continued my education, along with having my own pets. So I'm unable to give him the attention and time he needs. Please consider adopting RJ if you have the time and heart to building a relationship with this pup. I really do believe he can be an amazing dog if someone can take the time to train him.
