About Sasha Dazzle

Sasha is a 6 1/2 year old Great Pyrenees that we have had in our family for 6 years. She is usually the sweetest dog and diligent protector. We have never had issues with her showing aggression towards people in the home and she basically ignores our cats. However, she has tendencies to show food aggression and while she has shared the home with another dog (2 different dogs, one the first 3 years and another dog that is approaching 4 the other part) the entire time she's been part of the family, we wonder if she really does not like having other dogs in the home with her. Sasha has only ever been around medium to large breed dogs consistently, so toy or small dogs may be okay with her - she may view them like cats and just ignore them. We have never had issues with her and other dogs out on walks or at vet offices, so there may be a territory aggression at play as well. We have handled the minor squabbles, but 3 weeks ago the 2 dogs got into a fight that sent Sasha to the emergency vet. She was completely shaved and had numerous stitches and staples. The picture is her current state, but she is a pure breed Great Pyrenees with a full white coat. She has since made a full recovery, but we continue to keep the dogs separate because there is growls and snarls if we do not. We do not want to re-home our dogs, but there has been a change in the relationship between the 2 and we just want to get one to a save environment. We have looked into behavior specialists but their waitlists are long and we have heard mixed reviews on results. We are looking for a miracle fix to suddenly make the dogs not immediately go to fight mode, and unfortunately I do not believe that can happen. She is fully vaccinated and currently up to date until March 6th. I have an appointment mid-March for her annual vet visit and could discuss coverage of vet expenses if contacted before her appointment. Locally, I take my animals to New Palestine Veterinary Clinic and am willing to share records.
