About Harrier

Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Harrier She is approx 12 weeks old hound mix. Her mom is 43 pounds. We have no idea what breed the father is. She will likely be close to the size of their mom. She will get dewormed, several sets of vaccines, a microchip and spayed as part of her adoption. When she arrived, she was absolutely terrified. We don't think she had ever seen a human before. She is making huge progress in her foster homes. She can be shy still but that melts away quickly and you get a cuddly, playful and happy puppy. Harrier is almost fully potty trained. She is also crate trained. She's very playful and fun. She adores other dogs and would benefit from another dog in the home to play with and learn confidence from. She is still figuring out the leash. So far she's doing very well with the use of a harness. Harrier is great with cats. She loves kids and loves to play with them. She does still jump on kids and nibble on hands when playing. She is also learning to sit and shake. She did not always have access to food so she can be a little nippy with other dogs, if one tries to take her food. This will hopefully pass as she realizes food will always be available now. She does not have any trouble with people near their food. Hounds are a hunting breed and will carry those genetic traits. That does not mean they won't make great indoor family pets. It just means their families need to understand hounds and their behavior. They will bark and howl a lot. They may also have the instinct to chase, squirrels, rabbits, deer etc. You will need to make sure to properly contain them. If they see or smell a woodland creature they're very likely going to take off after it or even just following the scent of an animal that previously walked by. Keep in mind hounds were bred to chase animals through the woods for miles and miles. This means they will have some higher energy and you will need to give them proper exercise daily. Adopting a young puppy is a ton of work. They will have lots of potty accidents, chew things up etc. You will need to help them learn things like leash walking, crate training and basic manners. It can be a lot of work but the reward is a dog that fits well into your family's lifestyle if you invest proper time on training with them. Please carefully consider the time and effort a puppy requires before adopting. Vet and home checks required. No Apartments or condos. She is going to be too vocal Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) '%BC%8FPlease message [email protected] directly with questions or to get an application'%BC%8F
