About Dixie

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi, I was hoping to get some help for a pocket pittie that I adopted 2 weeks ago from MAS. I have one dog already, who is an 80 lb mixed female. Dixie, the pittie, is also female, and she weighs 41 lbs. I should have listened to someone who told me that 2 females may not get along. I lost my husband 2 months ago, and I thought my dog (his dog) could use a friend. I had a meet and greet at MAS, they didn't have much to do with each other, but the staff encouraged me that it would be okay. After a few days, I contacted Critical Memphis Animals, and told them this wasn't going to work. They have yet to find a foster for her. The problem I am having is not with Dixie. my dog feels like she's being replaced or something similar. She will hardly come in from the back yard, even in the pouring rain (my dog has never stood out in the rain), I have to entice her with treats until I can get a leash on her, and she's snapped at me twice. Dixie is about the perfect little girl. She's basically house broken, and since I moved her kennel to my room, I put some peanut butter in her Kong, and don't hear anything except her snoring all night. I do have to say she is a velcro dog, and isn't happy when I put her in her kennel and leave. I think she would sleep in the bed just fine. This whole situation is hurting my heart so bad. I had no idea that my dog would get so stressed out. Dixie is just a little cuddle bug, and I hate to have to let her go, but I can't let my dog suffer. Thanks!
