About Walter

Bloodhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Walter is a loving dog but has recently become territorial of our home and the people in it. He is good with our family and people he knows, but strangers who come to the house, including children, are in danger of being growled at and snapped at unless Walter is put away. We have two kids, one boy (13) and one girl (15). Walter is good with our daughter's female friends, but he is aggressive towards our son's male friends. My husband and I work, and it's becoming too much to rely on the kids to keep Walter contained in order to protect himself and others. We have a lab in the house who Walter gets along with, but he is aggressive towards our lab if we allow them to eat together. Walter does well at dog parks, and he does well with strangers as long as he's not meeting them on his territory. Walter would make a great guard dog for a one person owner who doesn't have to worry about kids coming to the home. He is trained on an electric fence, but a regular fence would be the safest option for him. Walter is obedient and knows his commands. He loves to snuggle up on the couch, and sleeps with our daughter every night. He is crate trained and doesn't mind sleeping in the crate if necessary. He is able to be left alone in the home when we are at work. We love Walter, and we want what's best for him. This is a very hard decision for our family.
