Hi fellow heeler fans . I work with a rescue and am currently fostering a 13 month old blue who I have had for several months . The owner was convinced to surrender him after he was seen kicking and punching him for chasing his cats. I have had 3 heelers of my own- my Jax is 11 years old and not very tolerant of another male, and I also have and foster cats. Nevertheless I decided to see what I could go with the rescue, who I named Jasper. Pretty early on he validated the cat chasing behavior, never hurt any of them- just terrorized them and they learned to only come around when he was crated . He also early on demonstrated extreme recourse guarding of food and toys (that weren't even his!) I was bitten a few times even trying to exchange a toy for his bowl with 1 or 2 kibbles left, or not hanging over his treat when HE wanted it. I have consulted trainers and behaviorists and previous experiences to train this otherwise seeet boy, without success. He refuses to acknowledge me as pack keader and becomes enraged when ignored-also resulting in a bite. He has also bitten my 92 year old father while going after a cat recently. My time with him is limited because I work and there are other people in the home. So there is no consistency. I feel like I have failed him terribly because his undesirable behavior seems to be escalating. I'm looking for a foster or adopter who has the time and patience and no cats! And knows the breed! Because this is a rescue, there is an application to fill out for both fostering and adopting snd sn adoption fee . This boy sees me as his go-to, follows me around , and loves being told he's a good boy and being petted and massaged. I have become attached to him , of course, so it's not easy giving him up but the safety of my cats, my dad, and me has become a concern. Please contact me if you can help this puppy and I will give details of the rescue's process. I am in Augusta, WV and would be willing to drive or meet up somewhere. And Jasper is fully vetted, around 50 lbs.
