About Charlie

Charlie is this amazing shihtzu who can't seem to catch a break in his senior years. We have to admit, part is definitely his behavior, but his charm, sweetness and wonderful attributes certainly out weigh his improvement issues. Charlie is a ten year, male, shihtzu who weighs 18lbs. He is cream color and the breed does not shed, but adopter needs to be aware that grooming is necessary every eight weeks. Charlie ended up in a kill shelter after his owner died. The shelter contacted us and asked if we would take Charlie into our rescue. Charlie was a bit fussy at the shelter. Between his senior age of ten, and his behavior, he was deemed unadoptable at the shelter and would have been euthanized. Charlie has been nothing less than perfect with his foster mom, but Charlie has shown behavior issues with other people. Charlie was adopted in March to a wonderful woman who loved him dearly. Charlie did snap at her a couple times in the beginning. At one point, he found a chicken bone during a morning walk. When his sweet adopter tried to take the chicken bone away, Charlie bit her thumb and unfortunately, it was a bad bite which resulted in stitches. Charlie now has a bite history and the adopter returned Charlie back to the rescue. Charlie's foster mom has noticed that when she is giving treats, Charlie gets very excited and will act too eager when food is involved. We do not know Charlie's history and only know his owner passed. Charlie is extremely loving and well behaved for his foster mom. He loves to go for walks and is well mannered. This is a very loving, attentive, loyal dog, but anyone interested in Charlie, needs to be aware that he has been nippy with people. Absolutely, no small children. Charlie does great with other dogs and cats. He loves everyone. Charlie is totally vetted, to include a dental. Adoption fee $300 Rescue is accepting applications within a 50 mile radius of Sarasota.
