Hi! I'm Mongo! Many of you have probably heard of me already, I'm kind of a big deal. I came to CO and was surrendered to a shelter here when I was 3 months old because it was believed that I had something called Mega E. This made me throw up, a lot. The shelter people tried really hard to find a rescue for me because the pound was no place for me. A nice lady saw my story and how happy I was in my puppy video and she agreed to foster me! So, I joined MHCR and my journey began. I went to see so many doctors to try and figure out what my exact problems were. I ate in a special chair and took lots of medicine. Finally, the smart folks at CSU figured out I had a very rare condition called Lower Esophageal Achalasia. That means that food had a hard time going into my stomach after I ate so my esophagus got really big and would cause me to regurgitate my food. We had huge plans to try an experimental procedure with Botox to help my problem and if it worked, a very famous surgeon was going to perform a super special surgery on me. True to form, my body had other plans. One day I got really, really sick and my foster mom knew something wasn't right. When I got to the emergency room, they found out my stomach AND my spleen (don't ask me what that even is) were INSIDE my esophagus! The super famous surgeon agreed to stay late, put my guts back together, AND do the special surgery on me. I'm so glad he did! Lots of nice people donated to help pay for my surgery. I'm very lucky the community was rooting for me. It took me a long time to recover. I had to eat through a tube in my stomach and I couldn't play with my foster siblings. BUT, that's all in the past. Now that I'm 6 months old, I'm healed and can run and play. I still eat my food in a special chair but I'm very good at it and often take a short nap in it afterwards. I eat plain dog food and I drink plain water from elevated bowls. We can't say for sure, but it looks like one day I can probably eat standing up like a normal dog, too! Well, there's a whole lot about me. But, let me tell you some of the super fantastic things about me, too. Everyone loves me and I love everyone. Dogs, adults, kids, they're all for me and I'm for them. I'd love a home where I get plenty of attention and exercise. I'm a pure bred Labrador, after all. I don't really like my crate. If I'm in it, I get a little anxious sometimes and that makes me regurgitate a little bit (don't worry, it's not that much). I do much better when I can hang out in the kitchen or somewhere with my canine foster siblings. I hope you'll take a chance on me. I know it's scary for people to hear about my past, just imagine living through it! I promise to be a good boy and taking care of me really isn't that different than taking care of a normal dog!
