Meet Turtle! This handsome male brindle is 4-years old and weighs a meaty 78 pounds. Being very good with people is his claim to fame. With an easy smile, he adores everyone he meets. He is super playful and super silly! It's no surprise that Turtle likes to paly in water. He'd love his own kiddie pool! He knows some basic commands, such as sit, paw, and down, but has so much potential to excel. He is well-mannered and not destructive with property. Why is such a great dog in a shelter? Though he loves people, he has an evil eye toward other dogs. He's been in several scuffles with fellow canines and has also bitten them. Turtle is a nice walker with good leash manners, but has trouble walking past other dogs. There's good news though! Staff at the shelter have been working with his dog-reactivity and show you the techniques that work for him. Our last report stated Turtle walked parallel to another dog at a distance of about 10 feet for half a mile! He ignored the other dog for 95% of the walk, which is wonderful progress for him. Please note that he's a really good boy, just a scared one. Since Turtle will need reinforcement and may always have some discomfort around other dogs, he should have a secure privacy fence and an experienced large-dog owner for sweet success. But remember, he is great with people! Please apply to FOSTER (only in NH) or ADOPT him. No cats, city living or apartments please.
