Lola is an 8 year old, 6.2 pound Shih Tzu LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Quiet, peaceful home. HIGHLIGHTS: Very gentle, sweet girl. Housebroken. Lola is such a sweetheart with the softest hair and big beautiful eyes. She came to rescue originally because her owner was going to take her to a shelter in a neighbor stepped in and took her and then contacted us for help. She was adopted earlier this year and recently returned. The adopter told us Lola had health issues she couldn't afford and she was not good with her grandsons. Of course we immediately took her back. The first thing we did was take Lola to the vet where we found the only thing she needed treatment for was a UTI. Done. As far as the grandchildren, she's being fostered in home with a 7 year old boy who is familiar with small dogs and very respectful of their space and she is fine. She sits with him and lets him pet her with zero issues. So we're not sure what happened in that home, but obviously it was not the right one for this sweet girl! When Lola first got back she was a little scared, but not aggressive in the slightest. It took her a few days to transition into her foster home but now her foster mom says she is a sweetheart who will come right over and sit on her lap if called, but she doesn't fight for a spot with the other pups. Just like she was the first time we had her, Lola gets along with everyone, dogs and humans. She enjoys getting scratches and pets and gives kisses. She would prefer a quiet home and would be fine as an only dog. Her sweet nature and temperament tell us that she would probably get along with cats, too, but that is just a guess. Other than a few accidents on her first day (not unusual for a little dog learning a new routine in a new environment), Lola is potty trained and has good house manners. She mostly just hangs out and hardly ever barks. Lola walks ok on a leash and will potty while being walked on a leash, but she isn't one to go on a leisurely stroll or to explore the yard. She is the first one at the gate to come inside after doing her business and shouldn't be left out alone due to her small size. She rides well in a car. Lola has an open-door crate with a doggy bed in it that she likes to go to for naps and to sleep in at night. The first time we had her she also enjoyed sleeping in the big bed. She really is a perfect girl and deserves to be loved and cared for in a laid-back environment, free of stress. Lola has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She had a dental when she was with us last year and she had to have all of her teeth removed and she has the cutest little pokey-out tongue!
