About Copper Top

Shih Tzu
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1 year old male Shih Tzu, about 11 pounds. This is Coppertop. He is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu and/or Havanese mix. He is one cutie and a real sweetheart. He loves to love. He has been in his most recent foster's home for about a month and is acclimating very well. He was a little skittish at first. He now sits on their laps and sleeps in the bed with them. He also lets them put on his leash without having to corral him in his crate to do so. He has had some scary past experiences that he needs just a little more time to let go of. He is pretty good in his crate. His fosters put him in his crate when they left the home initially, but now he stays out of his crate in the home with the other dogs when they leave. He does howl for a few minutes when they take off but stops pretty quickly. For this reason, he might do better in a house than an apartment, depending on your neighbors. He does not like being left alone, even if you go to another room without him. Because of this, he would also do better in a home with another doggy companion. He loves to go on walks and also prefers to do so with a buddy. He looks to that dog for comfort, guidance, and confidence. While he would do great with another dog that likes to play, he would also do fine with an older one. His fosters have dogs from 6 to 13 years old. He is pretty good at both having energy but being able to relax when you need him to. He has an adorable little chopping action he does when he gets excited, and he is a little nibbly. If he wants your attention, he will nibble at your hands, elbows, or legs for attention. It is cuter and endearing more than anything else. We think he would be a good family dog and seems well with children, but his nibbles might startle a younger child, so older children who can understand what he is doing and how to react are best. He also guards his food and toys a little but stops when told not to and learns quickly not to do so with people he knows and trusts. He is still potty training. He would do best in a home that has a yard and offers daily walks. He will need some consistency and training in this area, someone who has the time and patience to help him develop good bathroom habits. He is very treat motivated, which has helped in his training. He is incredibly smart, but a little stubborn. Since he doesn't shed, he will need frequent grooming. His coat and ears need regular attention because of having a lot of hair. He pretty good with bathing, grooming with clippers, nails, and getting his ears cleaned and dried twice a week. Coppertop is a young dog who would love a devoted family he can spend time with, play with, and learn to trust with.
