About Kirby

Adoption Fee: $600
Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Kirby Kirby is ready for his forever home! Are you the lucky one who will welcome this amazing boy home? Kirby is a 1 year old and weighs about 12 pounds. Kirby is a wire hair dachshund, which makes him doubly special! Kirby is a puppy (as dachshunds are puppies until they are nearly 3) and he is looking a home that understands puppies require time and patience. Kirby does very well with other dogs and he is looking for a home with ONE other doggy friend. Kirby will happily play with one doggy friend all day long. Kirby is friendly with children but has not been in a foster home where children live. Kirby would do well in a home with children 10 years of age and older. Kirby has not been tested with cats. Kirby is a happy, playful boy. He is looking for a home where he can sleep in the big bed with his human family. He loves to sleep on your legs and be close and snuggly! Kirby loves squeaky toys and will rough house. In his pre rescue life, he was taught to play with hands, and his foster family in Florida is helping Kirby learn that is not the way to play and that toys and treats are much more fun! Kirby is very cuddly and wants to be with his human all the time. He likes to be wherever you are! This very handsome boy is loving and will give kisses! He will 'sing' the songs of his doxie people with howls and barks, and he bays (like a blood hound). Kirby would like a fenced yard so he can spend some outside time; however, his new family should be aware that he does like to dig holes so he should always be monitored. Kirby is not food motivated and will often leave food unfinished, which is quite unusual for a dachshund. Kirby is working on his housetraining but like all puppies, consistency is very important. His new family will need to help him have a regular potty schedule. All rescue dogs go through a period of adjustment, so understanding and patience is important. Kirby is also working on his crate training and he will complain when he is locked in his crate. Kirby is leash trained and walks on it very well. He has gotten motion sickness on long trips, but he is getting much better about car rides as his foster family takes him on many short trips for socializing and fun days. This happy, fun loving boy is ready to find his forever home! Apply to adopt handsome Kirby today!
