Selena is a 7 year old, 13.1 pound Miniature Poodle LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Fenced yard, calm dog friend, peaceful loving home. HIGHLIGHTS: Sweet and eager to learn! Selena was surrendered to us and is the sweetest girl ever! But she has not been well socialized and is still afraid of a lot of things. Her current favorite pastime is following her foster family around the house and yard about 3 feet behind. She absolutely hates being left alone and will make the saddest howling noises (like even when one goes upstairs and the other is still around) so apartments or people working long hours aren't a good fit. She's not destructive if left alone, but will scratch a little at the door. That will improve as she gets more comfortable in a permanent home and knows that her family is coming back to her. She has started getting really excited and wagging her tail when they get back, which is great progress. Selena is particularly afraid of fast movements (standing up, reaching out to pet her) and 'loud' noises (like doors shutting or tv volume/music louder than soft). If you move slowly and make her feel safe she likes getting pets and will let you pick her up to snuggle. She 100% must sleep with her people or she will be very sad. She doesn't understand how to get in the bed though so she needs to be picked up. She's learned to jump up on the couch and snooze, but only in one spot. If someone is in that spot she doesn't know what to do with herself. Selena is good with other dogs and definitely needs a calm dog buddy to show her the ropes. She's done really well at taking cues from the other dogs in her foster home. She's tried to play with one of the other dogs and is starting to express interest in toys although she does not know what they are or understand the concept of playing yet. We have not had her around cats or kids. We don't know how she would be with cats, but kids are probably going to scare her unless they are older kids (12+) familiar with dogs. Selena is way too scared of the unknown for any leash walking and must have a home with a fenced yard. She's also scared in the car. We think once she's learned how to be a loved pet she will warm up to both though. Selena is potty trained as long as she gets regular potty breaks or there's an open door to outside. She doesn't quite know how to signal to go out though, so has had an occasional accident. She's also a patio pooper, likely because she's not used to going to the bathroom on grass. In general, Selena is really smart and sweet and will be an awesome lady as she learns she's loved and safe! She has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She had a dental when she had her spay and she is all ready to go to her new home!
