About Ramona

Meet Ramona, a dog with solid street cred. Her dearest friends call her Mona and she's just as worthy of a Da Vinci masterpiece. All this very loveable pit bull needs is another chance! She was surrendered by someone who could not properly care for her. She's an active young adult who's idea of a great day is anything outside her lonely dog kennel. She likes people and becomes bouncy, wiggly, and floppy-eared as soon as she knows them. West Springfield animal control says Mona was chronically loose, sometimes daily. During her escapades, she avoided trouble, shied away from strangers, and had no incidents with other dogs. She is smart and even knows to stay away from roads. When strangers approached her, she would freeze and give a bark or two, but as long as people don't force themselves on her, she settles nicely. Though a life of neglect is behind Mona, that doesn't change the fact she is homeless. She would be a great match for a kind person with some large dog experience. When she is out for walks and sees other dogs, she ignores them completely. She reacts only when a dog is forced on her but she responds to redirection. Mona is trainable and likes to learn. She needs some work as she pulls at the leash with her bully strength, therefore no young children should live in the home. . She actually knows some cues. She could live with a dog who can give her space but she must have slow introductions and the easiest transition for her now is one to a home without any animals. The officer at West Springfield animal control say she's a really good dog and did really well on an evaluation from a certified behaviorist. However, she is getting no exercise or enrichment, which is difficult for any dog let alone an active one who likes to run around and explore. And, since the facility closes at 2 p.m., she's having to cross her legs for a very long time. Requirements: Large dog experience, room to play and run, kids 10 or older, no other pets. Shelter life is very difficult for her.
