About KEENO - NYC Rescue Dog

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

KEENO, a 5-yr-old, 57 lb Pitbull mix, was rescued from death row at New York City's cruel kill pound, where he was abandoned to his fate by his uncaring owners who neglected him for nearly his entire life. KEENO was kept alone in a small bedroom for long hours every day and only received attention from the grandmother of the dysfunctional family, who must have loved him a lot, because in spite of his mistreatment, KEENO is an exceptionally affectionate and loving dog who loves life. After his lifesaving rescue from the city pound by a 501(c)(3) dog charity, KEENO was placed in a foster home where he was socialized, trained to walk gently on leash and learned to respond promptly to commands: 'Sit,' 'Speak,' 'Paw,' 'Touch,' 'Yes,' and 'Give Me Kiss'! Loyal, lovable and bright, KEENO is a playful cuddle bug with no resource guarding and is fully house trained. KEENO is a medium to low energy couch potato at heart. While KEENO is somewhat timid when adjusting to new situations and environments, he absolutely loves long exploratory walks, car rides, and has even ridden the NYC subways like a champ! KEENO likes other dogs, especially females, but has a tendency to chase cats and critters. KEENO would do best in a predictable routine in a low traffic, peaceful home with a single caretaker or a couple with at least one partner who works from home, because he becomes sad when left alone. Understandably - given his years of neglect - KEENO has mild separation anxiety but steadily improved with his foster. KEENO also has a tendency to become overprotective of his primary caretaker, so he needs to be introduced to new people visiting the home on a walk with his caretaker and the newcomer OUTSIDE of the home first. While KEENO is exceptionally friendly to strangers he meets on walks outside of the home, if a new person enters his home abruptly in the presence of his caretaker, KEENO will become frightened and protective, and has been known to go after a few pant legs, which has resulted in some minor scrapes to a contractor and a building superintendent, though KEENO has no serious bite history nor aggression in his past. After a thoughtful intro, KEENO will become fast friends with the new people in his life, who he will warmly welcome once he learns to trust them. KEENO is fully vetted, vaccinated, neutered, heart-worm negative and in perfect overall health. One of the most loving and lovable rescue dogs we have ever sponsored, KEENO longs for the forever home he has never known in his mostly lonely life. KEENO now languishes in a dull boarding facility, since a tragic fire broke out in his foster home, so we are urgently appealing for a rescue-caliber volunteer to adopt KEENO and become a part of the truest rescue dog's happily ever after, for which KEENO will repay you with loyal and loving companionship for the rest of his life.
