About BARBIE

BARBIE is a 3 1/2 year-old, 10 pound Minpin Chihuahua mix who was confiscated from a hoarding situation with a bunch of other dogs. The shelter asked us for help and we brought them all into rescue. LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Fenced yard and a doggy friend. This poor girl was shut down and so scared. It was clear that she had not had much positive human interaction in her previous life. She didn't want to be touched and would nip at anyone who tried to pick her up. It's still not her favorite thing to do, but she's so much better now! Barbie interacts well with her foster parents and will lie tummy up for belly rubs, a sign that she feels safe and trusts her foster family. She loves, loves treats and food is a great tool to help her learn to love you! She still gets nervous and runs to her safe place when strangers come to her foster home. Barbie gets along with other dogs and plays with the small dogs in her foster home. It would be best for her to be in a home with another small dog. She is much more relaxed and happier when her foster siblings are around to take cues from. Older kids (12+) who are familiar with little dogs should be ok for her. Cats are an unknown. Barbie loves to lounge on a nice soft bed outside on a sunny day! She is not leash trained and that, combined with her initial mistrust of strangers, means she should have a home with a fenced yard. She is housebroken and will use pee pads if she cannot get out to potty. Bedtime is Barbie's favorite time of the day and where her little personality really shines. She loves to play on the bed, get pets, give kisses and snuggle next to her foster mom. She has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Barbie will need a special, patient adopter who is willing to work with her to feel safe and happy. In return you will have a loyal and loving companion! *We are located in Pensacola Florida. Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. Most others we will consider within a 5-hour drive. We do not ship or transport our dogs. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted.
