She is a very special, spunky, and lively little girl who lost use of both of her rear legs on 07/12/2023. Ruby Sue was ultimately diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), which is relatively common in the dachshund breed. Due to Ruby Sue's IVDD, she is now fully incontinent, meaning she is unable to urinate or defecate at-will. She does NOT need to be manually expressed, as she can urinate and defecate on her own, she is just not able to control when. Ruby Sue has been going through intensive rehabilitation, but she does not have any deep pain sensation, so there is no guarantee she will ever walk again. Ruby Sue takes Gabapentin, Prednisolone, and Doxycycline to manage pain and inflammation associated with her diagnosis. She has been gaining strong core muscles and recently got her own custom-fit wheelchair! Despite having IVDD she lives her life to the fullest. Nothing holds her back! She is very dog friendly, cat friendly, and great with children. She loves shaking stuffed toys and gnawing on little nylabones. Although she is incontinent from her IVDD, she comes with everything you'll need to give her the care she deserves! Things such as reusable diapers, reusable potty pads, a custom fitted wheelchair, and her own little crate where she feels safe and relaxed. Ruby Sue is trained to sleep in her crate overnight, and is highly treat-motivated! Her excited hopping and bubbly attitude will make you fall in love at first sight. Ruby Sue wants to keep living her life to its fullest extent and is not ready to slow down anytime soon, so don't feel sorry for her! She needs someone that can match her happy exuberant energy. It is possible that Ruby Sue may need to use her wheelchair for the rest of her life, but don't worry, she scoots around fast and furious without it, so she doesn't need to be in it all of the time! This sweet personable girl has a LOT of love to give. Do you have the heart for Ruby Sue? Ruby Sue is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. Ruby Sue has a history of, and was treated for, Lyme Disease in addition to her IVDD diagnosis and management. Ruby Sue is fostered in Trenton, MI and is available for a discounted adoption fee of $200.00, as it is understood that her adopter will incur costs associated with her special needs.
