Hello. My name is Steve Baisden. In June my father passed away. He had three rabbit-hunting beagle/large hound mix dogs (mother and two, 2-year old brothers). None of them were spayed/neutered. Since my Dad's death was immediate and unexpected, two of my cousins and I each took a dog in to our multi-dog homes. I took in 'Brownie,' one of the brothers. Since we were attempting to transition him from being an outside dog to being an inside dog, we had Brownie neutered and also began obedience training with him. He has learned a lot and come a long way in his obedience but he is still 'reactive.' He has snapped at both my wife and I when trying to crate him or when putting the lead on him for going outside (as expected, he's a runner!). He also is having a hard time integrating into 'the pack.' He and one of our older male dogs have skirmishes quite often (thankfully no one has been bit or injured yet). He can be a very sweet boy and I don't think he is vicious, just having a really hard time with the transition (It has been roughly 5 months). At this point, my wife and I feel he might be a happier dog in a similar situation to his previous home. He had roaming privileges on my Dad's property (about 3-acres). He now is on a lead for the back yard/bathroom and goes for two-walks/day. He gets a good amount of exercise but it is a far cry from his previous freedoms. I have bonded with him, but realize for his benefit he might do better in a home with a large, fenced-in backyard or an acreage situation. Attached are some photos and I do believe he can 'run a rabbit,' for anyone interested in a rabbit hunting dog. I want to get a good situation for Brownie. Any advice or ideas you have for me would be great. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Steve Baisden 216.333.2757
