About Apollo

Adoption Fee: $600
Great Dane
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

LOCATION: Rochester, New Hampshire DOB: 02/23/2019 Hi! I'm still with my owner right now. I'm looking for a foster (fosters get first option to adopt!). This way the team can get to know me better and get an all clear from the vet. Read my bio below! Apollo was adopted a few months ago and is being returned. He is 5 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccines and testing, very TALL & healthy boy. He truly is an amazing dog. He has one little issue but let's talk about the good first! He's lived with several cats. If he looks like he wants to chase one you can just tell him to knock it off and he does. Manners! He's potty trained and crate trained. Knows several commands and sleeps on his dog bed in the bedroom. He's not mischievous or destructive. He is a fast learner with positive training and repetition. Personality- He LOVES his people. He's tall enough that when you're sitting in a chair he comes up from behind you and nuzzles you on the neck and smooshes his big jowls into your face for love. He's very playful and loves his toys. First thing in the morning, after his morning stretches, when you get up he will walk around with 'happy wiggles' with his toy in his mouth. Speaking of toys'|he does have some emotional support blankies that he sucks on to self soothe and relax. The current owners bought him a set of his own so he would stop stealing theirs. He enjoys playing in the snow but if it's under 20F and frigid he will just do a zoomie and run back inside. Other humans? He needs a few minutes to warm up to people but is overall fine. If someone barges into the house and goes to grab him for a hug he will growl as a warning. But if someone enters and gives him a few minutes to sniff he will do a Dane lean into them. We would place him in a home with kids 12+ if they have Dane experience. If not, older teens or just adults would be best. Now, for his little challenge- big boy is dog reactive. He needs a fenced in yard front and back. Reason for return- he slipped out of the door and grabbed an off leash yorkie. There was a bite wound to be stitched but no lasting damage and Apollo came back immediately when called. He CAN live with other large dogs if the home has some patience and can do slow introductions and read behavior. We have videos of him hanging out with other large dogs (and cats) and he does fine. Would need to be a controlled house who can feed and give toys in separate areas of the house for safety. No livestock but he would absolutely love a home in a country setting or out in the woods. Lake house? He does like to swim lol! If the home is on several acres with no neighbors we could eliminate the fence requirement. ========================= To apply to foster me, please fill out the application! https://form.jotform.com/60263115921144 .
