Gus is a incredibly sweet, 2.5 year old mixed-breed dog. He is a little tank, with stubby little legs and a barrel chest, with our best guess being a pitty/chihuahua (plus a whole lot of who knows what?!) mix. He has given us over two years of amazing love and affection, but unfortunately we need to rehome him. Shortly after adopting Gus, it became clear he had some territorial tendencies. We introduced him to our home with two cats and an older dog, and it took a lot of dedicated training, working with behavioral specialists, and medication to get him to a stable point in our household. We went through this effort because we saw Gus for who he truly is in his heart: a boundlessly affectionate and snuggly creature, who needs a stable routine, and prefers his humans to himself. What he lacks in momentary impulse control when exposed to triggers, he more than makes up for with kisses and cuddles. Gus needs a loving home where is the only animal, without young children around. Though he has been an incredible big dog brother to our 18-month old daughter, we have come to the decision that there is just too much uncertainty for it to remain a safe choice. However, Gus is her best friend and we would hate to separate them forever. Our ideal situation would be to rehome him with someone local, where we could remain in contact and allow Gus, our daughter, and our other dog to continue to have a relationship. Gus has a long life ahead of him and a lot of love to give. We are heartbroken what we can no longer provide the care and support he requires, but are hopeful you might be that person, and also allow Gus to stay in our lives, if that means he's no longer in our home. We are happy to arrange a meet-and-greet at a time and place convenient for you within the Portland area to ensure Gus finds the right home.
