MARGOT NOW NEEDS A LOVING HOME OR FOSTER AND/OR RESCUE TO SAVE HER LIFE! WHO CAN HELP? MARGOT - ID #932808 Humane Society of Southern Arizona, Tucson Please help us find a loving home, foster and/or rescue for this beautiful young chow girl before her time runs out. Margot is estimated to be only 3 years old and only 43 lbs so she is perfect size, although may be a little underweight since she was found as a stray. Margot was brought to the shelter as a stray on 9/9 after being trapped, having been seen roaming in very hot temperatures for days, reportedly with another chow (a senior girl who was caught a few days earlier, but ended up at the Pima shelter). It is unclear if the two dogs are actually related or bonded, but the other chow was already adopted from the Pima shelter. This shelter fondly named this girl, Margot, and she was just made available to adopt and recently spayed. Margot seems to be a typical shy chow at first. However, the shelter has many great things to say about Margot. She 'presents as shut down in kennel but loves going out for walks and will perk up when she sees someone come to her kennel with the leash. She is shy with new people, but goes up to them for a greeting sniff without much hesitation. She met with most of our adoption counselors today and did well hanging out with them in our lobby; didn't want to take any treats (doesn't seem particularly food motivated in general) but she did engage in giving licks on hands and liked getting head rubs, especially from male staff members. She is largely independent and likes to do her own thing in the play yard, but will check in with her human friends every few minutes and does come when called. She *really* enjoyed digging in our giant sandbox play area and laying down in the holes she dug. She walks well on leash for the most part, but does occasionally hesitate in new areas. She's easily encouraged to keep moving by calling to her and pantomime jogging, has kept loose leash when on walks. With other dogs, she hasn't shown any gender selectivity. She's neutral during introductions, doesn't seem interested in play, but has coexisted well and given appropriate corrections when her boundaries aren't respected (one of the male dogs she met attempted to mount her and sniff near her vulva, the first time she attempted to just avoid his movements, but did give a mild yip and air snap when he attempted to mount a second time. De-escalated immediately after and accepted appeasement signals from the other dog). She has done well with medical handling, our clinic staff reported that she was a big sweetie when she had her spay and wellness exam performed. Since she came in as a stray, we don't have any info on how she is around cats or other small animals, but she hasn't shown any interest in the community cats she has seen on walks and hasn't displayed prey drive while in the shelter.' The shelter also just noticed she's a slow and shy eater that prefers moist food. We are looking for a good home (ideally familiar with chows), or foster and rescue to save Margot.
