How is this dog around children?: Zuko previously lived with one 13 year old child. Around children, Zuko hides at first. How is this dog around other dogs?: Around familiar dogs, Zuko is shy and prefers contact on his terms. Around unfamiliar dogs on leash, Zuko lunges - his previous owner notes he is still relaxed and playful while pulling hard towards these other dogs. Zuko has no experience with unfamiliar dogs off leash. How is this dog around cats?: Zuko actively avoids, lunges at, and snaps at cats. He is reported to have killed a kitten (see bite history for more info). Resource guarding:: No reported issues. Bite history:: When Zuko's previous owner first brought Zuko home about 5-6 weeks ago, Zuko bit him, his wife, and his wife's daughter each one time. Each bite happened when Zuko was sleeping and someone walked by, startling him, and causing him to turn suddenly and snap at the person's feet. The first time Zuko bit his owner the bite did not draw blood. The subsequent bites - when Zuko bit his owner's wife and her daughter - did draw blood, but only resulted in superficial wounds that did not need medical attention. The morning of 8/25/2023, Zuko was let out of his crate for a walk when a kitten ran into the room. Zuko ran at and attacked the kitten, biting down on the neck and shaking the kitten, resulting in the kitten's neck breaking. The kitten passed away immediately. I asked Zuko's owner several times if the incident resulted in Zuko drawing blood from the kitten, but he said there was no blood drawn and Zuko just broke the kitten's neck. Housetrained:: Yes Energy level/descriptors:: High Other Notes:: Zuko is reported to be fearful of loud noises and be anxious when left alone. When Zuko sees strangers approaching him, bikes/skateboards/etc, or small animals on walks, Zuko will get close to his owner and tense up while staring at the stranger/bike/small animal. Zuko isn't bothered when held/restrained, when pushed/pulled off of furniture, or when his collar is grabbed/touched. Zuko is fearful when disturbed while resting/sleeping and when his feet/paws are touched. Zuko barks/growls, snaps, and bites when startled. Has this dog ever had any medical issues?: Yes Medical Notes: Zuko is reported to be blind in his left eye For a New Family to Know: Zuko is a social, affectionate, very active, playful, and fearful dog with a high activity level who prefers contact on his own terms. Zuko spends most of his time where people are and in the living room. For grooming, Zuko loves bath time/water and will allow his owner/family to bathe and brush him. Zuko pulls mildly to moderately on leash and gets 3-4 20 minute walks per day. Zuko is crate trained and does well in the crate overnight. Zuko is nervous getting/being in the car. Zuko knows how to sit. Zuko loves cuddles. Upon intake, Zuko was tense, whining, and panting. He was uninterested in treats and did not solicit attention.
