PENELOPE 179353 BROOKLYN ACC Estimated to be 13 months old, 36.2 Lbs UNALTERED FEMALE, MEDIUM MIXED BREED STRAY FROM NY 11208 MEDICAL BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: 3. YELLOW BEHAVIOR RATING: NH ONLY INTAKE DATE 08/09/2023 PET PROFILE Upon intake, Penelope was outside with her finder and when staff approached she sniffed them all over their legs and shoes. She shied away when staff leashed her but allowed her finder to remove the leash that she had arrived with. She briefly stood on her hind legs to sniff at the staff member but she was easily moved away when staff turned to the side and moved away. She walked nicely without pulling on the leash and maintained a neutral body throughout the intake. When entering the admissions office, a novel staff member moved a carrier out of her way and she bounced back with a tucked tail and looked up at the staff member holding her leash. She took vienna sausages by hand with a soft mouth. At one point, she lowered her gaze to the garbage can that was peeking around the half wall and growled at it. The staff member pushed the wastebasket fully behind the half wall and she stopped growling. Staff tossed her high value treats throughout the intake and she ate it enthusiastically. At one point, she growled and gave a short lunge at the staff member holding her leash but was easily stiff armed- she tucked her tail and did not do so again. She also growled, hard barked and lunged at the staff member who knocked on the door before entering but was stopped before she could get far and she side eyed, that particular staff member. She remained neutral bodied with the original staff member who had given her treats and would baby talk her. She allowed them to walk her to VS and then to clip her lead with no issues. She walked with mild pulling to her crate and went inside with some encouragement. Basic Information:: Penelope is an approximately 1 year old, female, white and tan, medium mixed breed who was found as a stray and surrendered by her finder. Her history is unknown. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I'll need daily interaction with you as I get used to my new life. I am eager to learn and would love to keep learning cues and tricks with you! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.
