About Sammie

Meet Sammie, an estimated 14 year old female Jack Russell. Sweet Sammie was brought into our shelter in awful shape. With some medical care and a lot of TLC we are now looking to find a home for Sammie for the rest of her years. If you have a soft spot for seniors please consider helping this sweet girl Sammie loves all people but needs to be the only pet in the home. Sammie had senior blood work done and it was conclusive that Sammie is in early stages of kidney disease. For treatment she is on Hills k/d canned food, the stew recipe, 1/2 can twice daily. She also gets lunch every so often to help with weight gain, which is the Hills k/d + motility dry food, softened. To help with weight gain she is on a high caloric supplement. Sammie also had typical old age changes. Decreased eyesight (suspect Lenticular Sclerosis) and hearing. She also has some general muscle loss (hind legs), 'old dog shakes' (hind legs) and can be unsteady on her feet at times. But she still absolutely loves leisurely strolls! When walking you'll notice that the very tips of her toes will scrape the ground, which can be signs of something neurological. We added a joint supplement to help with those old age changes. Sammie was in dire need of dental work which we have completed. She was missing 20 teeth, had 14 more extracted so is left with 8. She did wonderfully for her procedure and she is so much happier now that her mouth is pain free. Sammie is adorable and just wants to be with people. She needs a safe, warm and loving place where she can live out her life.
