About DELILAH

All your questions are answered in this narrative...I named her Delilah... I've been doing rescue in Miami for over 30 years, and all I keep saying to myself is I just wish that Delilah could talk to me and tell me her story. I received a phone call that a very nice guy who managed a business next to a parking lot that was being sold never noticed her being there until a few days prior. Was she dumped there? Did she wander off as unfixed females can do, and then they lose their trace home? Whatever the case was, little Delilah and that's what she is.... absolutely tiny... just under 40 lb... made this property like it was her home and now somebody was buying it and they didn't want her there anymore, and the nice gentleman next door was so worried at what was going to happen to her. If she did have an owner she wasn't being taken care of, because she was not microchipped not spayed and to top it off, she was heartworm positive. Fortunately, there is treatment for that but it is costly and toxic, something that neither she nor I needed to endure, moreso she, but she will come out of this ahead, because I will see to it that she does. Little Delilah is just the cutest little thing. She's extremely good with all people and very loving and very needy of attention. Don't let her adorable looks fool you or get you too comfortable. She turns into the Exorcist when she sees another dog. She is NOT dog friendly and needs to be in a home with NO OTHER PETS. She must go to a home with somebody who is experienced with this and understands that the second you let your guard down, that's when you're going to have a problem . As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as being TOO careful, and that's the person Im looking for to adopt Delilah that really truly understands this. Delilah is not good with other animals . She must be kept on a leash at ALL times, when in an unenclosed area, and my strong professional opinion would be that you don't even put her in a compromising position, and I would go as far as to say that she would be better in a home that has a completely enclosed yard (NO CHAINLINK FENCES). I don't even walk my dogs, because I don't want to take a chance. There are too many potential issues that could happen, and my dogs are not even dog aggressive. I always say it takes ONE TIME to have an accident, and that is one time TOO many. Unfortunately, a lot of people are negligent, and they let their dogs off leash, and if that happens, this could be a disaster waiting to happen. A wonderful angel is currently fostering Delilah and loves her to pieces, but she has a dog and the two of them are not able to cohabitate, and the foster is crushed, because she loves her dearly, but there's no way that it would be fair to any of them in the household to have to live behind closed doors, always in separation. I feel it is my mission to make sure that little Delilah finds a loving family to call her own for the rest of her life. The ideal family would be someone single, a nice couple, but no young children, even though I have not seen any aggression in Delilah's behavior towards any humans. Delilah has had a few pee pee accidents, but she is learning and is very smart. Remember, we have no idea how or where she lived and what the conditions were. Delilah is food motivated, walks well on a leash and is estimated to be about 4 yrs old. She is also scared of thunder. She would be a great companion to a family...she just wants love and loves to give and receive affection and cuddles. She needs and craves tons of love and deserves it, with everything she has been through. My promise to Delilah now is to make sure we find her the best forever home with one who will love her for the remainder of her life & continue to let us know how wonderful she is doing & allow us to be a part of her journey. Delilah will be your best friend. Will you be hers?? I am looking to find the perfect person/couple/family that will give her as much as she deserves for the rest of her life. She comes to you spayed, microchipped (AND MICROCHIP WILL REMAIN IN MY NAME INDEFINITELY), heartworm negative & on heartworm & flea/tick prevention& if u adopt her you MUST keep her on both & up to date with yearly check ups & vaccines.
