About Diamond

Diamond came to us as an Owner Surrender. She was found to have Giardia back in February but her owner refused treatment. Instead they brought her home and locked her in a kennel in their basement, rarely letting her out. By their own admission, Diamond had not even been walked in weeks. Her days consisted of doing NOTHING. Her owners contacted SSRR to say that Diamond was wasting away and needed someone to rescue her from her owner. We picked Diamond up from her owner and took her directly to our vet who said that she was the worse case of abuse/neglect that he had ever seen. Today, Diamond is a sweet, intelligent, loving, and friendly dog. She would love to be a lap dog if you'd let her, she'll settle for putting her head in your lap though She has come a long way in a short period of time. She was boarded as a puppy and given no training. She was crated 24/7 as an older puppy/young adult, therefore was not house broken when she came into SSRR. Diamond is eager to learn and very trainable. She sits and waits for her food, accepts correction from the 2 older dogs in her foster home so she is learning 'dog boundaries' as well as being trained by people. She can be overwhelming, at times, to the timid dog she currently lives with. She is high energy but will settle down after a walk, or play time and walks excellent on leash. She would do best in a home with another dog as a playmate. Diamond goes to work 4 days a week at a veterinary clinic that treats cats, dogs, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. She's curious about but non reactive to all animals. She's very friendly with people but occasionally protective of the cubicle she 'works' in, true to the Rottie personality. She's not a fan of baseball caps and mirrored sunglasses. However, she will relax and become friendly with people who wear them with introductions. She will eat (or try) any and everything. Having been starved for so long, she will put everything in her mouth. There has been a vast improvement in this since she's put on weight and her needs are met, as well as providing more appropriate things for her to chew on. Diamond is very much a puppy. We've watched her progress from the body/mind awareness of a 6 week old to the mouthiness and jumping of a 6 month old. She is improving daily. She's a big girl, and she's still puppy clumsy at times. Diamond rides great in a car, with no car sickness or anxiety. Diamond is housebroken and crate trained. She will wake you up at night if she needs to potty. Taking her out to potty immediately after feeding has been the routine, with no accidents in the house. Diamond sleeps un-crated in the bedroom, with the door closed, with the rest of the pack. She chooses the dog bed on the floor next to the bed. Diamond is very friendly with the outside cat and will back away, if she gets hissed or swatted at. Diamond loves children, but due to her size, small children are not recommended.
