James is a 5 year old handsome saluki. He was imported as a puppy from Qatar to the United States. He has been to a 7-day doggy boarding school (Dog University in Vienna, VA) to make him more obedient. He is loyal to his friends and family, and protective towards strangers. He is very cuddly. James is friendly to people he knows, but may be initially aggressive to strangers. When we have a party at home with people who are strangers to him, he understands quickly that they have been invited by us, and is relaxed and friendly around them. When he meets strangers briefly in the street or in an elevator,, he may try to nip them if they get too close. Unfortunately, we have to give him up . The dog park in our apartment complex has a low fence. A visitor walked up to the fence and leaned over. James started barking. The visitor did not retreat, and James bit her lightly. Our apartment complex has ordered our dog to leave by September 14th. James would be best in a home with a large yard and a high fence. He needs regular exercise. He likes small playful dogs, and is friendly with them. He does not like large dogs. As a puppy, he played with large dogs who would sometimes bully him. Now if he thinks a dog could physically challenge him, he tries to chase that dog away. He may not the best dog for children. When we walk with him in the street, he tries to nip at people who suddenly run past him, like joggers or children. He will definitely become friends with older children of a future owner, but may react skittish if new children come over and start behaving unpredictably.
