About Monty

Monty is an AKC registered intact Chocolate Male American Lab. He is playful, boisterous, loves walks, tail often wagging, loves to ne around people. Monty is my 15 year old daughters dog, and her school schedule this year will not allow her to give Monty the time and attention he needs on a daily basis. We live on 6 acres with yard chickens and he has killed 2 of them. Plans to put in a fence have been delayed, so for the above reasons we felt it best to look for another loving home for him. Monty is primarily an outside dog but is brought inside ocassionally. He stays on a lengthy chain and gets 2-3 walks a day. We would rather he not have to be tied up during the day. He sleeps in a kennel at night. I homeschool 5 of our children, and Monty does well around them. If a stranger comes up our driveway, he will bark at them. But once I establish the person is a friend, Monty will immediately warm to them. Has never shown aggression toward anyone. Monty has only been around our female lab. He has a tendency to want to play with her and chase her , but too boisterous at times. She is very docile, quiet, timid, etc. So it irritates her a bit. He has not shown aggression toward her, just high energy play. A few months ago, a dog wandered onto our property while my daughter was getting ready to walk Monty. It was nighttime, and he did lunge at the dog and scuffle with him a minute before my daughter restrained him and the other dog ran off. Monte knows some basic commands but needs reinforcement. We are hopeful that Monty will be able to be loved by another individual or family that can give him room to roam and love.
