Yadier is a very good boy! This big guy looks and acts a bit like a mastiff with terrier thrown into the mix. According to his DNA test, he is actually predominantly equal parts Great Pyrenees, boxer, and American Staffordshire terrier, so the mastiff/terrier vibe makes sense! Yadi loves his family more than anything. He is cuddly with his people and just a ball of sunshine! He will cuddle with you on bed or couch. He has a lot of energy but can calm down and chill -- chews/toys help! He has a solid obedience background -- come, sit, shake, place, and stay -- and is very food motivated. His current family says, 'He smiles and has a wiggly butt. He's always dreaming in his sleep and it is hilarious to watch.' Meeting new people in the home, Yadi accepts some new people quickly but may need a few visits to feel comfortable with others. When our volunteer met Yadi, she gave him space and did not overwhelm him (no top-of-the-head pets) and Yadi was immediately like, 'hello, friend!' But with some people, he can be reluctant to interact and may just keep his distance till he feels comfortable. On a leash, Yadi is overall well mannered, but he may bark at other dogs if he either finds them concerning or wants to meet and play with them. Yadi would prefer to have a fenced yard, but would probably do fine without a fenced yard if his family is ready to take him places, such as hikes, pretty regularly. (Also, check out sniffspot.com!) This boy is currently living with a female German shepherd. They are the best of buddies -- but both Yadi and the shepherd have a very high-arousal play/interaction style. That, paired with Yadi's interest in protecting certain resources makes for some conflict. Yadi typically will start the conflict (he's all bluster), and the German shepherd will get serious. Yadi has never hurt the other dog. Although Yadi's family, including his dog sister, love him very much, the occasional conflict between the two dogs is too much now as they are expecting a baby. So although Yadi clearly likes at least some other dogs, because of the potential for conflict (over resources, or just moments of high excitement), we are looking for a home where Yadi would be the only dog. Though it'd be great if his new family would seek out opportunities for Yadi to make friends with other dogs. :-) Yadi is currently living with a cat and gets along well with the kitty. He does try to chase the kitty occasionally. Sometimes, Yadi and the cat will play and the cat will let Yadi know when he's had enough. So Yadi could be appropriate for a home with a cat ... if the cat is confident around big dogs and if the humans will be able to take the introduction slowly. We would not want to place Yadi in a home with a cat who is timid around dogs as this is just setting the cat up for stress. Yadi is about 1.5 years old and 85 lbs. He's neutered, up to date on vaccinations, house trained, and crate trained. Interested? We'd love to hear from you! Please please please help us find him a loving home. We will be vetting new owners as a rescue would.
